Will Newspapers Die Out?

Nandan arranged newspapers in pedestrian, Cikapundung
A couple of years ago the wave of printed newspaper service was rapturous. But when digital platforms are going to shape up maturity, as Klaus Schwab called it fourth industrial revolution, the selling of printed newspaper providence has gradually decreased, replaced by digital subscribe, then bringing out the question about will the newspapers die out?

As of 22nd of May 2018. It was in the morning on Tuesday, my watch showed a quarter past four. The sun even hadn't risen in Cikapundung area, Bandung municipality, as I arrived appropriately on the sidewalk of Soekarno Hatta avenue, where a lot of printing newspapers were arranged on the pedestrian walk by its sellers. Consisting of China's news, Singapura, Sunda, Indonesia and English.

The area was definitely known as the central printing and distribution of periodic gazette since 1960s. One of the seller is Nandan. He justified that he has worked to market daily newspaper since he was in graduate school. "I've been selling (newspapers) for more than 20 years here," Nandan said. He is also a giant supplier in the area.

Nandan avows historically that this location has been used to distribute daily suchlike journal news and things like that to agents in West Java district. "This is in first-hand distributor," he admitted.

China's newspaper
Apart from Nandan, there are other distributors who are extremely dependent on the sale of newspapers to survive for securing their living costs. This happened to Sri, surname, who trades and supply several daily news for the sake of her family expenses. Sri has been selling gazette since 1998, and having a few of agents.

Meanwhile, olden days are different from nowadays in which digital platform hold the important roles than printed. It means that technology advances will replace conventional papers, like what Nandan and Sri sold, thus it impacts on sales gone down. Whereas printed newspapers have assured the livelihoods of a lot of people, including Sri as a mother of five children, "Now I could not sell a hundred of newspapers for one day compared to the past," She said. Will the newspapers die out?

However, newspaper printed edition has more advantages than either digital or cyber media. People are more comfortable facing paper than screens when they are reading. In other words, digital does change habits but it's tough to change people's comforts to read although efficiency arguments ought to be hardly to convince you.

I don't know how believed you really are, but as to technology advances and conventional papers, I regard printed edition will not die out due to dissimilar segmentation. It's not about sophisticated, unless you are unfamiliar with readings. (tra/)
